The All-Gold Japanese Forest Grass, orHakonechloa macra All-Gold, is a golden-leaved form of Hakone grass. Other common names include forest grass and Japanese forest grass. It has narrow bright golden-yellow leaves that stretch to 10 inches long and gracefully arch to form dense, spreading mounds that can reach 2 feet tall and wide. As the full sun burns the leaves, this perennial grass loves to be planted in part or full shade. The leaves have a papery texture and are not dense enough to withstand the afternoon sun. Just plant it in humus-rich, well-drained soil, and it’s a sure winner. It is virtually problem-free and deer resistant, mathis grass perfect for gardeners of any skill level. Although this Japanese Forest grass can tolerate hardiness zones 4 through 9, it typically grows best in locations with cooler summers. This Ornamental grass is perfect for small gardens but even better when planted where it will cascade down slopes, drape over rocks, spill over the edges of walls or in the border or a container. Great when used as a groundcover in shaded areas of the garden. Works well in mixed containers for the patio.
