We were inspired to create this flower-like design by a 6th-7th century Byzantine gold necklace in The Met collection ornamented with cross-shaped pendants of sapphire, pearl, and quartz. Displaying the wealthy Byzantines’ love of color and shine, the original necklace celebrates the artistry of ancient goldsmiths.
